Night of the Bloody Yeti
Uktar 21st and 22nd, 1489 (New Moon -30 and -29)
Frozen Cave
- #MountainClimb After summiting the perilous climb on Kelvin's Cairn the Party paused at the entrance to a frozen cave. Merken foraged to find some sort of stimulant that may help his exhaustion from the climb. She found either elderbud or styxweed root without being sure what it is. She smoked it anyway, taking a risk. It turned out to be a boon, healing her fatigue.
- At the mouth of the cave Orion sniffs around, tenses, and starts walking in without regard to the other adventurers. The adventurers come to a dog-leg in the trail and pause. While there they investigate and find several heads enshrined in the cave walls as well as the bones of a goliath corpse on the ground. Merken sorts through the debris to find two ice axes. Orion sorts through the debris and picks up a bone and begins to chew on it. Bardley searches the heads on the wall. One was Oobok with two magical earrings. Bardley takes them and instantly attunes to the ring of feather fall. The waiting seems to make Orion further agitated. He begins nervously chewing on the bone, pacing around, and tugging on Merken’s tail.
- Within the main cave Bardley and Merken see a female Yeti and her tyke. The tyke is playing on the floor with a balled up halfling, Perilou. Orion sniffs around, tenses up, and puts a strangle hold on Merken's tail. Even though the group successfully makes a sneaking check, Orion lets out a raging howl. Bardley is horrified by this uncontrolled and unforgivable tactical blunder. The female yeti responds to the howl with surprise and her own howl. The tyke runs and crawls up on the back of the mom, peeing a little on her back.
- Merken casts a second level flaming sphere to illuminate the room. Suddenly able to see, Orion screams out at the sight of the female Yeti. In a blind rage he runs at her with claws bared. He shouts a Vow of Enmity and lashes out. The first claw strike deals damage then bursts into flames. The second claw strike deals more damage. Terrified of fire the Yeti panics. Bardley casts a spell to command the yeti to hold. Merken transforms into a Craig Cat and pounces on the Yeti, knocking her prone and biting her. The tyke rolls away. The yeti continues to burn on fire, confused and panicking. Orion strikes the yeti with his claws, which explodes into a divine light. With this strike the yeti lies unmoving, seeming dead. After devastating the Yeti, Orion gives a shout of rage, stands up, walks away leaving the yeti tyke for dead. The yeti tyke strikes Orion in rage as he is leaving. The cold damage in its claws doesn’t impact Orion, but stimulates a deep memory in him. He remembers being alone in the tundra, wandering in the cold, doing anything he can to keep warm. It is fuzzy, but for time out of mind he wandered through the wastes cold and alone. There is a mix of emotions: confusion, fear, piercing cold, but also relief that this is preferable to what he is fleeing. Snapping back to reality, Orion spits on the tyke and walks out.
- Hit by a wave of the stimulant Merken hallucinates that she speaks to the yeti tyke, then snaps back to reality. As the party begins to leave, Merken casts healing word on the yeti, though there is no indication it has any effect. Everyone follows Orion.
- Out of the cave Orion rips off his chainmail and screams into the night. Merken and Bardley perceive that Orion is covered on every inch from his neck down with white scars. The adventurers run into a male yeti that is carrying a dead mountain goat. Everyone pauses, startled to come across each other. At that moment Orion screams at the yeti in intimidation. The yeti pauses in confusion then runs into the cave. Bardley remains bewildered and confused by what has happened since the time they started following Orion into the cave.
- Outside the cave the halfling asks if the party could venture up the mountain to find Astrix, the last missing companion. She is dead. They loot the body and gain many scrolls. They also find the body of a dead dwarf.
- From the peak, the Party can see to the West a column of smoke rising from something on the north side of the Lonely Wood. To the East, the Party can see a large man-made structure buried under the tundra.
- The Party sees an enormous bird flying across the sky and pulling a curtain of light. The ice churns in the Sea of Moving Ice. The blizzards come into the pass of the Spine of the World. Orion has a terrible feeling in the pit of his stomach along with a #Vision of four adventures and disaster with the gods crying out to deaf ears.
- The Party descends the mountain the way they came up.
- As they traverse the top of the Dwarven Valley they see several figures at the top of the hill. An orcish hunting party. Six orcs, a half ogre, and Slarv the Orc War Chief. The Party agrees to give the sled dogs except for Sparky to the orcs for safe passage. Bardley must also write a song honoring Slav and deliver it to the "goblin fortress" #HonorSong
- Keegan Velryn is delighted to see Garret Velryn returned and gives the Party four scrimshaw figurines: a Yawning Walrus, Dancing Hares, A Spouting Whale, and Smiling Fox
- Keegan Velryn spoke to Owenn Tarsenal and told him to help the Party however he can.
Luskan Arms
- Party goes to Targos#Luskan Arms and meets Owenn Tarsenal. They learn that Naerth Maxildannar occupies the second floor. Owen tells them how lots of people come and go to see Naerth, including Eddie Southwell. Right now, Shandar Froth is upstairs.
- Owenn Tarsenal bemoans constant problems with rats. They’ve become smarter than the traps.
- In order to stay the night have to talk to Naerth Maxildannar.
