20 | Before the vote, Jartha stepped forward. He revealed that he had long acted as a double agent within Naerth’s ranks, providing meaningless intel about Caer Koenig while learning about Naerth's operation for the Harpers. His testimony, delivered without bitterness, weighed heavily. In the aftermath, he remained in Bryn Shander, alongside Imdra Aggerlath, Fef Morryn, and Roark, all of whom have offered their advice and counsel and have offered to serve as trainers for both you individually and for the new army. A vote on Naerth was taken. By narrow margin, the Council of Speakers resolved to place him under arrest. He was taken into custody by Sheriff Markham Southwell, acting under the authority of Duvessa Shane of Bryn Shander. The Speakers found that the center of Naerth’s crimes—his schemes, bribes, and coercions—struck at the heart of the Council itself, which Bryn Shander was duty-bound to protect as host of the Council. Naerth is being transported to Revel's End for pre-trial detention. His conduct will be formally investigated. If you want to interrogate him, you will have to travel there. Orders have gone out. Every town has been directed to raise its militia, as best it can, with whatever it can muster. One week from today, half of all able-bodied fighters are to report to a rallying point where the Eastway meets the road between the Redwaters and Lac Dinneshere. Training is to begin immediately. The Council has deferred its decision on command. But it agreed, without dissent, that one general must be named. In the days to come, that burden will fall on someone. For now, the Dale begins to march. |
19 | Voting proceeds. Voting appears to be losing when Naeth offers to vote yes if he is made general. Players refuse. Dorbulgruf Shalescar then reveals he has been playing Naerth the whole time, luring him into the open to engage in bribery and various other tactics. He votes for the Army and votes to have Naerth imprisoned. |
18 | The council meeting begins with [Duvessa Shane] proposing to raise a standing army for Ten Towns to address growing threats from dwarves, orcs, and goblins. Naerth Encounter counters by questioning the logistics and potential dangers of creating such a force, including who would command it and the risk of it becoming too powerful. The debate highlights the tension between collective defense and maintaining independence among the towns. |
18 | The speakers meet to discuss the potential war threat, with Naerth Encounter arguing against preparing for war and suggesting devotion to Auril instead. Orion attempts to challenge Naerth's portrayal of the adventurers as outsiders but is shut down. Meanwhile, Johnny disguises himself as Naeeth and intercepts Edgra Durmoot on the road, deceiving her into believing she missed an early vote. The meeting breaks for a meal before additional speeches and voting, with the guests asked to step outside. |
16 | Upon arriving back in Lonelywood from the forest, they find Speaker Nimsy Huddle at the Lonelywood#The Pick and Pint (formerly Ramshackle Inn), visibly upset. She confronts the group, questioning her leadership abilities and comparing herself to Duvessa. Orion suspects this is a result of political maneuvering, likely by Naerth Maxildannar and his associates. |
15 | At the Speaker's House, they find a locked chest containing a political speech, gold, and a magic scroll. They give the modified speech to Olivessa, who delivers it eloquently to the townspeople, potentially swaying votes in her favor for the upcoming election. Meanwhile, Johnny Blades searches the loggers' house and finds an envelope with a seal from Naerth Maxildannar. As night falls, the group celebrates, but their revelry is interrupted by shouts from the mead hall. |
11 | Zhentarim hierarchy typically has one person at the top in a region as a kind of head honcho, and then lieutenants in every town. Likely Zhentrarim has replicated that structure here. In determining whether he is the Don or a lieutenant, the critical thing seems to be that lieutenants come to see the Don and nice vice versa. So you can probably conclude that if that is happening, he is at the top for the region and overseen by someone in Luskan. Naerth Maxildannar's birth is recorded in Targos, so he is a local. His parents died when he was a teenager. |
11 | There isn't much record in the local papers and journals about Naerth until he becomes Speaker in Targos a couple of years ago. He could have left and returned. He is known to be tight with Skath, the leader of the Targos militia. |
10 | Markham Southwell who brought thanks from Duvessa Shane and was accompanied by the pickpocket child from Bryn Shander, named Willie. Markham said he learned what happened with Eddie Southwell and admitted he had suspicions but still didn't believe Eddie would ally with Naerth Maxildannar. |
10 | The Crew hired Danae Xotal as their tavernkeeper at Lonelywood#The Pick and Pint (formerly Ramshackle Inn), and Dzaan agreed to serve as a temporary librarian for a few weeks until they find someone for the permanent position. Dzaan was ordered to complete the prior week's research on Naerth Maxildannar and then turn to researching Auril the Frostmaiden. |
09 | Merken uses the scrying mirror to spy on Naerth Maxildannar. Sees him in his office, in which there is a large map of Ten-Towns with intricate markings, and he is conversing with a dwarf with red hair about the dwarf running for the speaker election in Good Mead and using Naerth's money for bribes. |
07 | With Orion having abruptly disappeared after the fraught encounter with the yetis, the players decided to forego visiting Naerth Maxildannar and instead hit the tavern before returning to the abode of Keegan Velryn and Garret Velryn for a long mid-day rest. |
06 | Party goes to Targos#Luskan Arms and meets Owenn Tarsenal. They learn that Naerth Maxildannar occupies the second floor. Owen tells them how lots of people come and go to see Naerth, including Eddie Southwell. Right now, Shandar Froth is upstairs. |
06 | In order to stay the night have to talk to Naerth Maxildannar. |
04 | Players talked to Eddie Southwell(Sherriff’s son) at the front desk. He claims to not know about the snake. They go to talk to Duvessa Shane. She has not seen a snake, but note she and Eddie are the only people there right now. She also notes that flying snakes are often messangers used by Naerth Maxildannar. She shares her concern about the events of the night before and other towns rising up. Targos in particular. Naerth Maxildannar is a big concern. He is the opposite seat of political power on the council. Players asked her about Ravisin and Vernice. Duvessa Shane has not met Ravisin. She notes the townpeople talk about them as if they have magical powers. They control magical beings. Angry at the world. Players wondered about her concern of Targos, what they might do. She thinks they could declare war or Council of Speakers to censor her. Trying to win over other towns. Naerth Maxildannar often gets votes from Dougan's Hole and Good Mead. She thinks he is Zhentarim. |
