20 | Before the vote, Jartha stepped forward. He revealed that he had long acted as a double agent within Naerth’s ranks, providing meaningless intel about Caer Koenig while learning about Naerth's operation for the Harpers. His testimony, delivered without bitterness, weighed heavily. In the aftermath, he remained in Bryn Shander, alongside Imdra Aggerlath, Fef Morryn, and Roark, all of whom have offered their advice and counsel and have offered to serve as trainers for both you individually and for the new army. A vote on Naerth was taken. By narrow margin, the Council of Speakers resolved to place him under arrest. He was taken into custody by Sheriff Markham Southwell, acting under the authority of Duvessa Shane of Bryn Shander. The Speakers found that the center of Naerth’s crimes—his schemes, bribes, and coercions—struck at the heart of the Council itself, which Bryn Shander was duty-bound to protect as host of the Council. Naerth is being transported to Revel's End for pre-trial detention. His conduct will be formally investigated. If you want to interrogate him, you will have to travel there. Orders have gone out. Every town has been directed to raise its militia, as best it can, with whatever it can muster. One week from today, half of all able-bodied fighters are to report to a rallying point where the Eastway meets the road between the Redwaters and Lac Dinneshere. Training is to begin immediately. The Council has deferred its decision on command. But it agreed, without dissent, that one general must be named. In the days to come, that burden will fall on someone. For now, the Dale begins to march. |
18 | The council meeting begins with [Duvessa Shane] proposing to raise a standing army for Ten Towns to address growing threats from dwarves, orcs, and goblins. Naerth Encounter counters by questioning the logistics and potential dangers of creating such a force, including who would command it and the risk of it becoming too powerful. The debate highlights the tension between collective defense and maintaining independence among the towns. |
18 | The group discusses their plans outside while a meal is taking place inside. Merken sends his bat familiar into the chamber to spy, relaying that Duvessa Shane is moving around talking to people, Dorbulgruf Shalescar is sitting alone avoiding interaction, and Nimsy Huddle is focused on Duvessa. Orion and Bragnar approach Avarice to question her motives, but she is evasive and uninterested. When Bragnar threatens Avarice and demands she choose a side, she casts a silence spell on him and walks away. |
18 | The group encounters a tense situation involving a pickpocket child and a Targos militia member who wants to cut off the child's hand as punishment. Various party members attempt to de-escalate the situation through persuasion, deception, and magic. Orion casts a spell on the militia member, causing him to drop the child. Johnny Blades pretends to be the child's father and tries to lead him away. Merken messages Imdra Arlaggath for help in resolving the conflict peacefully. Bragnar and Orion offer drinks to ease tensions. Eventually, Orion manages to persuade the militia to accept a fine of 150 gold instead of physical punishment. As this unfolds, Duvessa emerges from the Town Hall, observing the scene. |
18 | The speakers discuss their strategies for gaining support for the standing army proposal. Orion talks to Nimsy Huddle, who is troubled by past events but still trusts him. She expresses concerns about Duvessa potentially leading the army. Bragnar attempts to engage with Dorbulgruf Shalescar about a sea monster issue, but realizes it's a pretext. Merken suggests alternative leadership structures for the army to Nimsy. The group suspects Dorbulgruf Shalescar has a hidden political strategy and is intentionally noncommittal about their vote.. |
16 | Upon arriving back in Lonelywood from the forest, they find Speaker Nimsy Huddle at the Lonelywood#The Pick and Pint (formerly Ramshackle Inn), visibly upset. She confronts the group, questioning her leadership abilities and comparing herself to Duvessa. Orion suspects this is a result of political maneuvering, likely by Naerth Maxildannar and his associates. |
16 | The group discusses their encounter with Ravisin , who accused Duvessa Shane of killing her sister. They claim Ravisin cast moonlight and threatened to kill Ten-Towners, forcing them to fight. Nimsy Huddle confronts them with information from a supposed journal, suggesting they killed Bardley to keep secrets. The group denies this, claiming they're being manipulated. Nimsy Huddle decides not to arrest them but expresses her distrust. |
15 | The group meets with Duvessa Shane in Bryn Shander's town hall to report on their recent activities. They inform her about the successful election in Good Mead and share information about potential collaboration between goblins, orcs, and duergar. Duvessa expresses gratitude for their protection of Garn during the feast and their handling of the white moose situation in Lonelywood. She indicates there is much more to discuss about recent events. |
15 | Duvessa Shane expresses concern about a potential invasion and suggests going to the Council to raise a standing army. The group discusses the political landscape of Ten Towns, including the need for six votes to raise an army. She outlines potential allies and opponents on the Council, suggesting Bryn Shander as a defensive position. She then presents each party member with a magical item suited to their abilities: Merken receives the Ring of the Amorous Grove, Johnny Blades gets the Coin of the Honest Thief, Bragnar is given the Gauntlets of the Giant Slayer, and Orion receives the Beacon of the North. The session concludes with the characters reaching their next level completing the first saga of the campaign. |
10 | Markham Southwell who brought thanks from Duvessa Shane and was accompanied by the pickpocket child from Bryn Shander, named Willie. Markham said he learned what happened with Eddie Southwell and admitted he had suspicions but still didn't believe Eddie would ally with Naerth Maxildannar. |
08 | Ravison casts moonbeam on Sahnar as he enters. “The Ten Towners will suffer for killing my sister!" Merken attempts to negotiate with and persuade Ravisin, doing so with extremely high skill. Ravisin demands that they tell Duvessa to come in person and Merken agrees. |
08 | At that moment Bragnar runs in, raging, and smacks Ravison with a maul. After a difficult combat in which Bragnar was downed, Orion kills Ravisin. The shrub talks to the party in common and they name her Twiggy B. She tells the party that Duvessa lured Ravison’s twin into the woods and killed her in cold blood. Says Duvessa didn’t speak at all. Tried to kill Ravison as well, but she escaped. Merkin invited the shrub to come along. It was terrified of Ravison. Merkin recognizes berries as Goodberries. Team did a long rest. |
04 | After a long rest of intense dreams the travelers wake in the dark. Looking out the window they see a flying snake carrying a letter from the north to the center of town. Merken tried to charm it in friendship, but failed. Bardley took off sprinting to follow the snake….but failed. Could tell it went to City Hall. Team goes to Duvessa Shane to see about the snake. |
04 | Players talked to Eddie Southwell(Sherriff’s son) at the front desk. He claims to not know about the snake. They go to talk to Duvessa Shane. She has not seen a snake, but note she and Eddie are the only people there right now. She also notes that flying snakes are often messangers used by Naerth Maxildannar. She shares her concern about the events of the night before and other towns rising up. Targos in particular. Naerth Maxildannar is a big concern. He is the opposite seat of political power on the council. Players asked her about Ravisin and Vernice. Duvessa Shane has not met Ravisin. She notes the townpeople talk about them as if they have magical powers. They control magical beings. Angry at the world. Players wondered about her concern of Targos, what they might do. She thinks they could declare war or Council of Speakers to censor her. Trying to win over other towns. Naerth Maxildannar often gets votes from Dougan's Hole and Good Mead. She thinks he is Zhentarim. |
04 | Players confront Eddie Southwell. He denies it. Bring him in front of Duvessa Shane. Eddie tried to talk his way out of it. He was not successful in convincing Duvessa. She interrogated him. He gave her an ultimatum. She decides not to place team under arrest. Duvessa put him under house arrest. If he leaves town he is a fugitive. He walks away. She notes that he has already been under suspicion for the lottery. The letter is not enough to incriminate him. Need to find more. Drag him in front of the council. |
04 | Players see Eddie Southwell leaving town and tell Duvessa Shane. She thinks he is going to Targos. While they are talking to her, simultaneously, Merken disappears on an errand. |
03 | #Lottery Merken casts thaumaturgy to make a thunder clap. It emanates from the gallows. Duvessa Shane is not surprised. Eddie Southwell and Markham Southwell are surprised. People begin to walk out of their homes and businesses. Merken then has all of their windows and doors opening and slamming shut. More people come out. Bardley starts banging the war gong. “Towns people! We are getting signs from the gods and we need people here”. A good size crowd has formed. |
03 | #Lottery Bardley starts making flower blossoms around Duvessa Shane. Bardley gives her bardic inspiration. She begins to talk about the gods not wanting the sacrifice to continue. She is not doing well. But she sees Bardley wink and she gains her composure. Merken makes her voice loud. As she speaks about them being displeased Merken makes the ground shake. “If you are displeased show us as sign!” |
03 | #Lottery Merken uses cantrip “create bonfire” and lands it in the exact spot they wanted. Merken then weaves it into the colors of the temple of Amaunator. Garn the Hammer yells: “Those are the colors from the temple”! The people begin to yell, release her! Orion yells, “Release this Woman!” Duvessa Shane tells Eddie Southwell to release her. Jaclyn Kneescrabble begins to struggle against the guard. Orion knows (from a previous check) that she has moderate hypothermia and losing her mind. Merken uses healing on her. She recovers and stops struggling. Merken creates a thunderclap and extinguishes the bonfire. Duvessa Shane says at that moment, “ Amaunator is pleased!” The townspeople shout their approval. Bardley puts some extra clothes on her. He then uses Bardcraft to put blooms in the ashes. And it was so. Another sound of satisfaction ripples through the crowd. Jaclyn Kneescrabble asks the Markham Southwell to bring her back to tavern. He looks to the travelers and they give their asent. |
03 | #Lottery Orion gives Duvessa Shane the sign to wrap it up. She tells the townsfolk to spread the word of Amaunator to the other towns. She then invites them to join her at the House of the Morninglord for prayer and reflection the next day. Merken sets fire to the gallows using bonfire. |
